The Metabolic Typing DietReview by Joseph G. Hattersley I highly recommend THE METABOLIC TYPING DIET, by William L. Wolcott with Trish Fahey. NY: Doubleday, 1999. Do get it and study it. For it unravels a multitude of mysteries about nutrition. For example, why does calcium benefit some osteoporosis patients and harm other osteoporosis patients? The reason: differences in metabolic type. The metabolic typing diet system has been developed over a period of decades and used successfully by thousands of people. As the book states (page 228), "When you balance your macronutrients properly, you'll lose weight if you are overweight and gain weight if you're underweight." And page (223), "You'll know when you've hit your personal fuel mix because you will immediately have strong and lasting physical energy and mental clarity, a solid sense of well-being, and a sense of fullness and satisfaction - as opposed to persistent hunger and sweet cravings." Achieving one's correct fuel mix enables recovery from and prevention of degenerative diseases of aging. The book reads easily and has helped me to achieve a new level of mental clarity and sustained new high of energy and stamina since my arterial fibrillation (heart irregularity) began more than 10 years ago. Very simply, my answers to the 65 questions in Chapter 6 revealed that I am a mixed metabolic type-A. Getting 30 % protein and 20 % fats/oils into me in every low-sugar meal and every low-sugar snack is doing these wonders for me. Incidentally, I weighed 150 lb. At 6 feet tall and have gained 12 pounds - without eating any more than before! Besides, I have said goodbye to my decades-long insomnia. There is much to learn of fine-tuning; the book is helping me to do that and to achieve still greater peaks of well-being. Before starting the program I had cleared out all the mercury fillings and root canals from my mouth. Even people with multiple chemical sensitivities recover good health. Getting onto their correct fuel mix brings about rapid detoxification of the chemicals, heavy metals and other garbage in their (and everyone's) bloodstreams. "Astounding" improvements in hair analyses confirm this. Husband and wife more than likely will not have identical fuel-mixture needs. And so food preparation can be a bit like the life of a short-order cook. But both partners will probably enjoy much stronger health and feel far better that way. |
